Gianpaolo
& Simona

Simona came to England 16 years ago in search of her mother and a better life but found herself on the streets. She met her husband, Gianpaolo, while sleeping rough. Both were addicted to heroin and they lurched between the streets, squats and hostels. Simona fell pregnant just over two years ago and it was then that the couple decided enough was enough – it was time to change and give their baby a chance in life.

They tackled their heroin addictions. Gianpaolo is now clean and Simona is on a low dosage of methadone. They also have a beautiful 18-month-old boy, Daniel, and live in a spacious flat in Peckham.

Initially, the couple were on the child protection register, but now, due to their amazing progress, they have been removed. Gianpaolo has secured a catering position at college and Simona wants to get into employment. Her passion also lies in catering and her ambition is to work at Jamie Oliver’s Fifteen Restaurant. “He is my hero,” she tells us.
